Placon Implements Ecostar(TM) Material In Medical Packaging

Placon Corporation of Madison, WI has introduced EcoStar(TM) PC50 and HS 1000 Medical Packaging, an environmental packaging solution for healthcare providers.

As secondary packaging for medical products, these two materials are ideal options for environmentally conscious packaging of medical devices, products, and diagnostic equipment. Hospitals, clinics, dental offices, and other healthcare organizations will find the products beneficial not only in terms of environmental responsibility, but in real savings over virgin materials.

Consisting of guaranteed 50% post-consumer content and 85% total recycled content, EcoStar(TM) PC50 material is designed for secondary packaging, where the primary package provides sterility. Typical applications include clamshells, in-process trays, vial accountability trays, and glucose meter packaging. The material can be tinted for identification purposes, or can have UV resistance included.

Similarly, EcoStar(TM) HS 1000 material is suited for medical environments where form/fill/seal operations are performed in-house, and offers guaranteed 35% post-consumer content. With superior heat sealing characteristics, items such as syringes, for example, can be packaged with HS1000 on existing production lines and sealed with film or paper lid stock. The material can also be used with RF or ultrasonic sealing equipment, common in the dental industry.

Both PC50 and HS1000 are part of Placon's EcoStar(TM) line, an RPET (recycled PET) which offers exceptional clarity and impact resistance. It not only helps keep waste out of landfills but also offers a significant cost savings over virgin PETE and PETG.
