Entry-Level CMM offers object-oriented programming.

Press Release Summary:

Suited for production and progress inspection of single processing stages, CONTURA® G2 direkt coordinate measuring machine (CMM) utilizes VAST® XXT scanning sensor for measuring geometry, form, and position of small parts with normal, squared geometries. Plastic and metal parts can also be measured. Machine is available with CAD-based Calypso scanning software, which facilitates generation of measuring runs with object-oriented programming.

Carl Zeiss Expands its Offer for Entry-Level Scanning Technology with CONTURA G2 direkt

MAPLE GROVE, Sep 6 - Carl Zeiss Industrial Measuring Technology (IMT) today introduced at IMTS '06 (Booth # D-4501) the new CONTURA® G2 direkt coordinate measuring machine (CMM). With CONTURA G2 direkt, Carl Zeiss now offers three CONTURA models to meet the individual application requirements of its customers: CONTURA G2 direkt, CONTURA G2 RDS und CONTURA G2 aktiv. All three models feature the same accuracy.

CONTURA G2 direkt provides a particularly affordable means of entering the world of scanning technology from Carl Zeiss for production and progress inspection of single processing stages. This measuring machine with the VAST® XXT scanning sensor is designed for measurements on small parts with normal, squared geometries. These parts are usually generated by boring and milling centers in 2.5 or 3D processes. In general, a small single stylus or star stylus is sufficient. The VAST XXT scanning sensor enables measurements of geometry, form and position. Users often do not need special form measuring machines. Plastic and metal parts can also be measured.

CONTURA G2 RDS meets the specifications needed to measure complex features and parts with multiple angles that require smaller styli. It is equipped with the RDS articulating probe holder from Carl Zeiss that reaches 20,736 positions in 2.5° increments, as well as the VAST XXT probe for articulating scanning. VAST XXT can be used with styli up to 250 mm long, as well as very small styli with tip diameters of only 0.3 mm. The large deflection range and the low measuring force make this machine a very sturdy scanning sensor.

CONTURA G2 aktiv is ideal for measuring deeper features such as bores. It is available with the high-performance DynaTouch sensor for active single-point measuring, also self centering and with the VAST XT sensor for scanning measurements of size, form and position. VAST XT offers active scanning and single-point measuring and self-centered measuring and meets high throughput demands. Its high speed and high point densities make this sensor suitable for all applications in curve and freeform measuring, as well as reverse engineering. It can be equipped with extensions up to 500 mm and stylus weights up to 500 g.

Calypso for fast measuring program generation

CONTURA G2 is available with CAD-based Calypso scanning software that enables easy generation of measuring runs. With object-oriented programming, the operator uses the features of the design drawing. It is possible to make corrections and changes to existing measuring programs as well as generate partial measuring runs from an entire CNC program.

Calypso supports single-point measuring, scanning and optical measuring, and permits a plan/actual comparison of prismatic workpieces. The software thus enables form inspections on geometric features and digitization of unknown models. Scanning allows you to inspect dimensions of fit, form and position, as well as reliably inspect geometry segments such as conical frustums and bore sections. In doing so, Calypso clearly shows possible deviations from the specified form. The measuring results can be displayed in accordance with the user's requirements; reports can be customized.
