Entry-level 5-axis machining centre, teaching machines and other innovations from Spinner

German machine tool builder, Spinner, will display 20 machines on its largest ever, 5000 m² stand at this year's EMO exhibition in Hannover. There will be 11 CNC lathes and nine milling centres including five different 5-axis machines. One will be a new, entry-level, vertical machining centre, called U5-620 Compact, according to Whitehouse Machine Tools, sole sales and service agent for the UK and Ireland.

The competitively priced machine is expected to be popular with job shops looking to break into five-face machining. Unlike most early entry 5-axis models on the market, which are only capable of 3+2 axis work, the U5-620 Compact is able to fully interpolate four CNC axes for completing more complex profiling. The machine also features a Siemens 8400D-SL control with new Combidrive amps, a 9,000 rpm spindle and a 24-position BT40 tool magazine.

Another new offering from Spinner will be a U5-Performance vertical machining centre, characterised by high torque drives on the rotary B and C axes, fitted with a 6-pallet pool to provide the capability for long periods of unattended production.

Other Spinner innovations at the show will include a range of teaching machines, the CM-Series, aimed at the education sector. The German manufacturer is re-entering this field after a decade without such machines in its portfolio. Today, the company is offering them as packages in combination with full production machines to meet current demand from the market.

In the area of turn-milling, Spinner will be promoting a 16-tool BMT turret on the manufacturer's TC series of lathes, providing more rigidity and power when using driven tooling.

Overall there will be a focus on automation, which will be in evidence on a 5-axis prismatic machining centre and four turning centres. Spinner delivers more than 50 turnkey installations each year, providing full production cells including auto-loading, input/output conveyors, SPC control, gauging and cleaning, as required. This is facilitated by Spinner's own specialist automation company near Stuttgart.
