Enhancement of Siemens Gearboxes

The Siemens Drive Technologies Division has been busy enhancing its range of gearboxes.
In the new Flender SIG range (standard industrial gearboxes), the torque has been
increased compared to the existing product range, and the grading of the sizes has been
refined. The first type series covers two-stage to four-stage helical gearboxes and bevel helical gearboxes for a torque range of up to 125,000 Nm.

Nowadays, users no longer want to be dependent on custom products for application-specific drive tasks. Instead, they want to be able to use standard gearboxes. This means that standard gearboxes need to be designed so that they can be adapted to specific applications in a flexible way. Siemens is now meeting these requirements by enhancing the range of gearboxes. The new range of standard industrial gearboxes will be presented at this year´s Hannover Messe under the name Flender SIG.

For the standard industrial gearboxes, the torque could be increased by up to 15 percent compared with the previous range without having to increase dimensions. As the size grades have been refined, users can select precisely the right gearbox solution for their drive tasks. What's more, the new gearboxes are lighter than their predecessors. As well as supporting horizontal and vertical mounting positions, they can also be installed on the front. The standardized connections offer flexibility in terms of mounting options, such as those required for temperature control or gearbox lubrication. System planning and engineering are facilitated by the 3D CAD models. The first phase of the product launch focuses on two- to four-stage helical gearboxes and bevel helical gearboxes covering a torque range of 3600 to 125,000 Nm. During subsequent stages, the range will be expanded until it offers a total of 20 sizes with torques of up to 500,000 Nm. Where sizes 23-28 with a torque of up to 1.4 million Nm are required, these will continue to be available from the existing modular range.

Flender SIG are suitable for use in many different contexts; they can, for example, be used as conveyor belt gearboxes in conveyor system applications and the construction materials industry or as drive components in environmental engineering applications
and the steel industry.
