Osram Opto Semiconductors Introduces LED Engineering Kit

Kit illustrates many configuration options for LED lighting

Santa Clara, CA (October 22, 2008) - The new LED Engineering Kit from OSRAM Opto Semiconductors is a powerful tool for anyone who wants to test LEDs with various accessories and applications while gaining practical knowledge of LED lighting. The new kit includes an OSRAM OSTAR high-power LED and components from various LED Light for You (LLFY) partners to include several lenses and reflectors, a power supply, a thermal interface material, and a selection of heat sinks. A brochure is also included for technical assistance.

The LED Engineering Kit is available for purchase exclusively from www.ledlightforyou.com/led-kit .

Lighting designers, luminaire manufacturers and architects who are directly involved in creating lighting systems can use the LED Engineering Kit as a tool to gain insight into new LED technology and to test different LED lighting solutions. A host of reflectors, lenses and heat sinks can be combined to create numerous configurations and provide insight into what the new light sources can achieve.

The LED Engineering Kit contains the OSTAR LED, two reflectors from Fraen with medium and narrow beam angles, and three lenses from Ledil - a wide angle lens, a spot lens, and a cat's eye for side deflection. Also included in the kit are a Laird thermal interface material that provides optimum heat transfer, two heat sinks (one from Coolermaster and an aluminum plate), and an OSRAM Optotronic power supply for the European/Asian or NAFTA market. The kit demonstrates the numerous options offered by these tiny light sources and indicates the accessories needed.

"An LED alone is not a light fixture," said Sebastian Lyschick, Network Manager LLFY at OSRAM Opto Semiconductors. "Our LED Engineering Kit provides a quick and simple means of understanding the new LED technology and its exciting possibilities. It can be used as the basis for developing projects and products with network partners."
