New Cummins QuickCheck II Easily Captures Engine, Transmission and Brake System Information from Electronic Diesel Engines - Including SAE J1939 and J1587 Data
COLUMBUS, Ind. (Jan. 23, 2002) - Cummins Inc. today unveiled the new QuickCheck II system for Palm(TM) or HandEra(TM) handheld devices, designed to easily read and capture engine, transmission and brake system information from electronic diesel engines.
QuickCheck II now covers all diesel engine broadcasts - including SAE J1939 and J1587 data-quickly and conveniently. It is capable of easily reading fault codes, trip information, engine parameters and data.
Using the parameter screen on the Palm handheld device, a range of engine functions can be checked in real time, including data from sensors and switches to engine diagnostic information, including engine load and speed, coolant and intake manifold temperatures, output torque, fuel rate and transmission oil pressure.
Cummins first introduced the original QuickCheck in March 2000 to read and capture SAE J1587 engine data using a datalink adapter plugged into the appropriate equipment harness. Engine data can then be displayed on a Palm handheld device in real time and downloaded for use later on a personal computer.
Now, QuickCheck II meets engine diagnostic needs for owners of vehicles powered by any electronic diesel engine from any manufacturer. It also has an updated interface that is more user-friendly.
"Because it is so easy to use, the initial QuickCheck has been extremely successful in the field," said Andy Pajakowski, engineering manager for the new QuickCheck II product at Cummins. "Now, we believe that QuickCheck II, with its increased functionality and more user-friendly interface, will strengthen our leadership position in the handheld diagnostic tool market."

"It fits comfortably in a pocket or a palm and it's instant-on, so QuickCheck II is more practical than a laptop computer. The QuickCheck II kit includes a custom datalink adapter, all necessary interface cables and connectors, and the diagnostic software application. The adapter easily snaps onto the Palm handheld device and can then communicate through the equipment's datalink connector.

A separate software and cable package for QuickCheck II is also available, enabling it to diagnose the Cummins 24-Valve Turbo Diesel Engine in Dodge Ram trucks.
