ORMAT® Unveils New Compact energy converter For Standby Power

Sparks, NV November 19, 2001: ORMATO introduced its new Compact Energy Converter at Futurecomm in Florianopolis, Brazil. The ORMAT Compact Energy Converter (OCEC) is a fully integrated power system that supplies highly reliable standby DC power for telecommunications applications, in a compact footprint. The OCEC, which is only 3'x6'x6', provides a cost effective, low maintenance solution for standby power, leveraging ORMAT's thirty-plus years of proven field experience with closed cycle vapor turbogenerator (CCVT) technology.

The OCEC supplies rectified, filtered dc power when utility power is available-- and uninterrupted power for an unlimited period when utility power fails. An integral, high quality battery provides the short ride-through, from grid failure until the unit reaches full load. With a capacity of up to 53,000 Watt, the OCEC is particularly suitable for providing standby power for wireless cell sites, microwave repeater stations and similar remote telecommunications installations where high
reliability is critical.

The OCEC eliminates the need for a separate rectifier and a large bank of batteries, lowering initial capital costs and reducing site acquisition costs, since the space required by the shelter is reduced by 50%. In many cases, the need for an air conditioning system is also eliminated. Overall, the operator obtains lower initial capital costs as well as reduced operating and maintenance expenses over the life of the telecommunication site, while increasing the reliability of the standby power system.

The ORMAT Compact Energy Converter (OCEC) is designed to operate
dependably and unattended in very harsh environments, building on
ORMAT's field experience with its ORMAT Energy Converter (OEC). ORMAT has deployed thousands of these units in more than 60 countries around the world, totaling more than 25,000 kW of remote power; many units have been in operation for more than thirty years.
