Baumer Electric Expands Optical Rotary Encoder Offering

New Sensors Designed to Withstand Strong Shock and Vibration

Southington, Conn. - May 9, 2006....Baumer Electric has expanded its line of optical rotary encoders used to monitor speed, position and direction of rotation. Both the new absolute multi-turn encoder and the new incremental encoder are designed to withstand strong shock and vibration in demanding end use environments.

The new GXM2S Optical Absolute Multi-turn Encoder retains position even in the event of power loss, and is ideal for use in medical imaging equipment, elevators, robotics, industrial automation, transportation vehicles, farm equipment, heavy machinery, textile processing, aerospace monitoring, and other applications where exact position is critical. This encoder resists up to 10g vibration and shock up to 100g. Its small steel housing has a diameter of 58 mm, and is available with a variety of bus interfaces and options.

Designed with a cost saving, carbon-fiber reinforced plastic housing, the GI342 Incremental Encoder effectively monitors movement in conveying, sorting, packaging, textile processing, aerospace, and general industrial automation applications. The incremental encoder resists up to 10g of vibration and up to 200g of shock. With a diameter of 58 mm, this end shaft encoder is available with an embedded cable that will not protrude in most applications.
