Encoder Chip features diffractive optics technology.

Press Release Summary:

ChipEncoder(TM) provides rotary position feedback of 3,300-160,000 counts/revolution and 100-1,000 counts/mm linear feedback for precise, closed-loop motion control. PCB mount device has 3-channel output that includes reference mark and broad alignment tolerances for automated assembly; with no adjustments needed. Non-contact SMT optical encoder exhibits zero wear, backlash, and hysteresis and can replace packaged encoders in many applications.

Optical Encoder Tiny, Accurate, Easy to Integrate

A new, low-cost optical encoder chip that provides higher performance than conventional optical and magnetic encoders, with broader alignment tolerances, is being introduced by MicroE Systems of Natick, Massachusetts.

The ChipEncoder(TM) features diffractive optics technology to provide rotary position feedback of 3,300 to 160,000 counts-per-revolution and 100 to 1,000 counts-per-millimeter linear feedback for precise, closed-loop motion control. Reportedly the smallest optical encoder kit available, this tiny, PCB mount device has three-channel output which includes a reference mark and broad alignment tolerances for automated assembly; with no adjustments needed.

Suitable for closed-loop motion control and product miniaturization applications not previously considered because of size, performance, and cost, the ChipEncoder(TM) sensor measures only 6mm sq. x 4mm H. Unlike mechanical devices, this non-contact SMT optical encoder exhibits zero wear, backlash, and hysteresis and can replace packaged encoders in many applications.

The ChipEncoder(TM) volume pricing (quantity of 5,000 units) starts at under $100.00 each. Literature and price quotations are available on request.
