CONCORDVILLE, PA -- PacTec Corp. has created a new series of stylish, ergonomic enclosures to add to its growing line of popular, hand-held electronic enclosures. The new XP and XPL enclosures are ideal for housing handheld instruments, controls, testing equipment, scanning, and other devices used in consumer audio and video electronics, alarm and security systems, inventory control systems, medical devices, scientific instruments, data entry terminals, computer and telecommunications interfaces, "smart" interfaces for automated systems, and more. The enclosures are available in two sizes -
the XP is 5.5" x 3.6" x 1.1" and the XPL is 7.0" x 4.0" x 1.1". Both sizes are available with or without a nine volt battery compartment - which adds the "9VB" suffix to the model number. Both sizes are available in black and PC bone as standard colors. An end panel - provided blank in the standard unit and captured in place by slots when top and bottom covers are assembled - can be used for connectors, displays, IR sensors, LEDs, etc. PacTec can inexpensively create a custom end panel specific to the product's use as well as customize the enclosure itself.

The styling of the new handheld enclosures is attractive, contemporary, and ergonomically designed for comfort and utility. The long sides of the units are gently radiused - and beveled top and bottom - for style and comfort. The top cover is slightly rounded and the corners are radiused to create a very fashionable appearance. A recessed top panel area is ideal for keypads, displays, membrane switch panels, and overlays; when these are incorporated into the recessed area of the top cover, the overall look is very sleek.

The spacious interior provides considerable room for components. Built-in internal bosses can be used to mount boards and components - several can capture a PCB when the top and bottom covers are assembled.

In 1,000 quantity, the XP is priced at $3.47 each, the XP-9VB is $4.10, the XPL is $5.10, and the XPL-9VB is $6.15. Units are available off the shelf with quick delivery in one or two days.

Like other PacTec enclosures, the standard XP Series enclosures offer manufacturers an extremely attractive alternative to designing and building an enclosure from scratch. Special insert tooling areas permit customization at significant cost savings. Using the basic model, modifications can be made to semi-customize or even totally customize the design to meet specific applications. PacTec can also supply custom keypads, membrane switches, displays, overlays, and identification legends and logos.

The enclosures are designed so that they assemble quickly and easily. All necessary assembly components are provided including contact clips that insert into the battery compartment for one 9-volt battery. Cases are constructed of rugged, impact-resistant ABS plastic with molded-through color, ensuring long life and attractive appearance.

PacTec originated the concept of standard plastic enclosure designs that can be modified and customized very inexpensively. The company also offers expert design and packaging engineering assistance and can provide custom design drawings in as little as 48 hours.
