Second Generation EPIC Enclosures and Systems Shrink Embedded Systems

Ampro's Tiny New ReadyBox(TM) Enclosures and ReadySystems(TM) Fit Almost Anywhere BOSTON, Sept. 13 / -- Ampro Computers, Inc., the inventor and a leading supplier of PC/104, EBX and EPIC single board computers, today announced the introduction of two new ReadyBox(TM) enclosures to help OEMs and system integrators to rapidly deploy Ampro's EPIC compatible ReadyBoard SBCs into the smallest possible application environments. Like the original ReadyBox enclosure, both new ReadyBox enclosures feature easy access to ReadyBoard I/O and support for a 2.5" hard disk drive. Unlike the earlier enclosures, the new enclosures are DC powered, supporting either 12v or 24v input. An external power supply is available for AC powered environments. Both new ReadyBox enclosures are constructed so that they are splash-proof from above. There are two products in the new ReadyBox enclosure family. ReadyBox 200 offers reduced product depth and uses an industry standard 2U height. It provides expansion "slots" for two PC/104, PC/104-Plus or PCI-104 expansion cards. The ReadyBox 200 is 180mm (w) x 88mm (h) x 152mm (d) and is easy to integrate with expansion I/O through convenient customizable I/O expansion panels. This new enclosure occupies one-third the space of the original ReadyBox enclosure. ReadyBox 210 uses an industry standard 1U height and is designed for systems not requiring expansion cards. The ReadyBox 210 is 180mm (w) x 44mm (h) x 203mm (d) and occupies one-quarter the space of the original ReadyBox enclosure. Both members of the next-generation ReadyBox enclosure family are also available as ReadySystems using any of the twelve products in the ReadyBoard family, DRAM, and a 40GB hard disk drive, assembled into a complete system with Fedora Core 4 Linux installed on the HDD. Ampro ReadyBox 200/210 enclosures are designed for wall-mount and desktop applications. In addition, rack mount ears are available for both enclosures, enabling the use of inexpensive ReadyBoard solutions in a high density rack environment. The ReadyBox 200/210 enclosures accepts any of Ampro's twelve ReadyBoard products. The PC-style connectors on each ReadyBoard protrude through the ReadyBox I/O panel, providing easy access to the USB ports, 2 Ethernet ports (RJ45), dual serial ports (DB9), CRT video, PS/2 keyboard and mouse port, and LEDs for power and HDD activity. Additional I/O ports on the ReadyBox 200, provided via cable connection, include two additional DB9 serial ports (for a total of four), two additional USB ports (for a total of four), and three audio jacks (line in, line out and microphone in). On the ReadyBox 210, additional I/O ports provided by cable connection include two additional USB ports (for a total of four). ReadyBox 200/210 enclosures also provide external access to the CompactFlash slot on the ReadyBoard in a convenient, yet EMI-protected environment. A system fan can be easily added to both enclosures to improve system thermal performance. The operating environment is 0-50 degrees C for both enclosures. Pricing and Availability ReadyBox II enclosures come complete with DC power converter and all cables and necessary hardware. The ReadyBox II enclosures will be available in 60 days.
