High Efficiency Enclosed Power Supplies for LED Moving Sign Applications
Sunpower UK's new HDP-190/240 Series are highly efficient enclosed power supplies that address today's Green and energy saving concerns. They allow designers to implement LED moving sign systems with significantly reduced energy consumption. These 1U low profile products both have dual 2.8 V and 3.8 V outputs which can directly drive2.8/3.8 V RGB LED chips; an approach far more efficient than the traditional method of driving these chips from a single 5 V supply using dissipative voltage reduction.
The HDP-190 model is rated at 192 W and delivers up to 40 A at 3.8 V, and up to 22 A at 2.8 V. The HDP-240 is rated at 241 W and provides up to 50 A at 3.8 V, and up to 27.5 A at 2.8 V. Both models feature active PFC, and both offer output voltage adjustment ranges of 3.6 - 4 V on the 3.8 V output, and 2.5 - 3 V on the 2.8 V output. Each operates from a universal 90 - 264 V AC input and each has a LED indicator for power on.
These are rugged units equipped with many features for their demanding target environment. Innovative high-efficiency AC-DC circuit design and non-isolated DC-DC buck topology allows efficiencies of up to 84% (HDP-190) and 86% (HDP-240), even with their low-voltage outputs. The fanless HDP-190 requires only free air convection for an operating temperature range of -30°C to +40°C, while the HDP-240 with its built-in long life DC fan operates from -30°C to +50°C ambient under full load. Operation up to +70°C is also possible for both models with suitable derating, allowing use in a wide range of indoor and outdoor applications.
The HDP-190/240 series have conformally - coated PCBs, providing basic anti-moisture and anti-dust protection from the humidity and dust found in many moving LED sign environments. The units are vibration tested and are also protected for short circuit, overload, over voltage and over temperature conditions, and the HDP-240 has a cooling fan On/Off control. User safety is assured through the series' compliance with UL, CUL, TUV, CB and CE standards, and the units have an input to output isolation resistance of 3 KVAC.
Typical applications include LED electric displays and moving signs, LED TV walls and LED channel letter related installations. All units carry a three year warranty.
