PALATINE, Ill. - OCTOBER 17, 2005 - Project engineers looking for a cost-effective solution to HVAC, pump and fan applications rated 20 hp and below can specify the Square D® S-Flex(TM) enclosed AC drive from Schneider Electric. Designed for new and retrofit applications, the S-Flex features the Telemecanique® Altivar® 31 drive for flexible control and quick delivery.
"As commercial and industrial users evaluate their demand for energy, HVAC systems represent the largest impact for potential energy savings," says Leon Kythas, Schneider Electric product manager. "Altivar S-Flex drives are efficient and provide enormous energy savings over traditional methods of flow control. They significantly reduce the cost of providing coordinated motor control for variable torque pump applications."
According to Kythas, the principal advantage of the S-Flex drive is that it can be specified as an alternative to a feature-rich, enclosed drive, making it easier to accommodate last-minute project changes, as well as aftermarket retrofit needs. All mounting hardware and wiring connections are included; the S-Flex drive can go from shipping carton to production in minimal time.
Other important features of the Altivar S-Flex drive include:
NEC2005 Article 409 compliant. The S-Flex drive meets all new requirements for industrial control panels with a 100,000 AIC rating without power fuses.
Dedicated customer control terminal blocks. All controls interface with dedicated customer interconnections, minimizing the potential for miswiring due to multiple control connections.
MAG-GARD® circuit breaker. Resettable over-current and branch circuit protection means there is no need to stock fuse replacements.
Integrated AC line reactor. Thermal rated at 150 percent, the reactor provides cost-effective harmonic abatement and transient protection during operation.
Increased reliability. With no fuses or cooling fans within the split-box compartment, downtime is minimized.
Quick delivery. All units are in stock or factory deliverable in five days or less.
Faster assembly time. The S-Flex drive comes pre-assembled and pre-wired, including dedicated wiring terminals for customer use.
The S-Flex drive is available in two base enclosure sizes in 1 to 20 hp at 460V ratings that require NEMA Type 1 general purpose enclosures. It is UL508A listed, giving project engineers the flexibility of using the S-Flex design with drive and/or full-voltage motor control.
