EMI Filter Plates Now Available with Lightning Strike Protection

Fairview, PA - October 30, 2006 - Spectrum Control now offers models of their bolt-in style and custom EMI filter plates that meet the specifications of RTCA/DO-160 Section 22 Lightning Requirements. In order to achieve this added protection, Spectrum adds a specially formulated potting compound into metal dams created around the filter pins. This potting insulates and protects the capacitive filter element allowing it to withstand exceptional surges such as those caused by lightning strikes. These filter plates are applicable for many applications, particularly avionics.

Spectrum Control's bolt-in filter plates eliminate the need to mount filters into bulkheads. These filter plates offer excellent EMI filtering up to 5,000 pF (standard) in frequencies from 5 MHz to 1 GHz. The plates can be specified with selective line filtering and both C and Pi circuits with higher capacitance values available. Bolt-in filter plates are available with right angle and straight filter pins and in various plate sizes with up to 74 lines per plate (hi-density) and 60 pins per plate (standard density).

Custom-designed EMI filter plates may be specified to meet a variety of size, shape, filtering or material requirements. Connecting to the filter plates can be done using ribbon style connectors, harnesses, hard wiring, or soldering. Contact Spectrum Control for additional details on their custom filter plate capabilities.

Spectrum filter plates enable customers to maximize real estate on the PCB, while improving performance. Filter plates simplify installation and reduce the risk of damage to the filter element due to thermal shock and installation. All Spectrum Control filter plates are 100% tested for key parameters. Filter plates typically are used in military/aerospace, telecommunication, medical, and industrial applications.

Spectrum Control lightning strike protected filter plates are made to order with pricing ranging from $30 to $300 depending on configurations and quantities.
