O-Z/Gedney Non-Metallic Emergency Lighting System Designed For Hazardous Locations

ROSEMONT, IL, May 31, 2005 Targeting hazardous, corrosive industrial applications, O-Z/Gedney has developed a non-metallic emergency lighting system.

Capable of providing up to 90 minutes of emergency operation, the O-Z/Gedney CID2 explosion-proof lighting system delivers the reliability needed in emergencies, such as a power outage or fire, thanks to a solid-state charger that maintains the sealed-cell, maintenance-free battery at full charge. During emergency operation, the battery is protected from deep discharge by a low-voltage disconnect (LVD) circuit.

The CID2 is rated NEMA 3R (raintight), and is ruggedly built from compression molded, fiberglass reinforced polyester, formed with a continuous silicone gasket to withstand environments of moisture, dirt, dust or corrosion that would limit the life of an ordinary emergency lighting system.

The CID2 can be installed in NEC Class I, Div. 2 areas, as well as in Class I, Zone 2 rated applications, such as fuel storage, grain elevators, textile mills, and petrochemical and chemical processing plants. The versatile design of the housing allows for the attachment of single or dual, 8- or 12-watt halogen sealed beam heads, remotely or direct mounted.

Other key features include a pilotlight that indicates the presence of AC line voltage; a universal transformer for operation on 120, 20 or 277 VAC lines at 50 or 60 Hz; and an automatic charger that recharges the battery upon restoration of normal power.
