OS Protection Using Advantech Windows® XPe/FP2007 Ready Platforms
Irvine, California, April 3, 2007 - Advantech is launching a range of powerful Embedded Ready Platforms powered by the new Windows® XPe/FP2007 embedded OS to provide a complete set of tools and components to enable rapid prototyping, application development and demo platform for your Windows® XPe applications. With Advatech's Windows® XPe/FP2007 Ready Platforms there's no need to waste time and energy developing on-board device drivers or using embedded OS authoring tools like Target Designer to build a custom Windows® XPe/FP2007 image; Advantech's design team has already done that for you. Also, with Advantech's unique File Based Write Filter (FBWF) protection utility, you can now write-protect the OS at the file level, leaving you to concentrate on developing your own applications.
Advantech Windows® XPe/FP2007 Ready Platform Features
Advantech provides a complete package of Microsoft® Windows® XP Embedded Ready Platforms. This includes a Microsoft® Windows® XP Embedded license, FBWF Utility and User Manual that enables System Integrators to quickly define folder and partition protection.
Pre-configured Windows® XPe /FP2007 English image features:
· File Based Write Filter (FBWF): Helps protect embedded devices at the file level (unlike previous versions which only write protected at the partition level), enabling improved service and more secure applications.
· USB Boot: Native support in the OS for booting USB mass storage devices (including USB Flash) on systems with USB 2.0 boot capability.
· .NET Framework 2.0: Support for .NET Framework 2.0 applications on Windows XP Embedded systems.
· DirectX 9.0
· Windows Media Player 10

Design Services
Windows® XPe is a stripped down version of standard XP Professional, with additional embedded feature enhancements. Therefore, every Windows® XP Embedded production normally requires an integration service. Our Windows® XPe /FP2007 Ready Platforms are provided to the customer as a starting point to evaluate Windows® XPe in a small footprint. This, of course, means that there is no guarantee that it will run existing customer applications seamlessly.
To get an idea of whether or not an existing application can run on Windows® XP Embedded, the customer is encouraged to run the existing application with our Ready Platforms. If this does not work or there are more requirements needed, the customer can apply for Advantech's Design Service at a very reasonable development cost to help make a customized image of their own.
