Artila's Application-Ready M-508 and M-508T Linux Computers

2008/8/25

Environmentally Versatile Computing Solutions

TAIPEI, Taiwan - 25 August 2008 - Artila Electronics Co., Ltd., an emerging force in the embedded computer solutions field, announced their M-508 application-ready Linux computer.

Artila's M-508 comes with ATMEL ARM9 180MHz SoC, 64MB SDRAM, 32MB Flash memory, and I/O peripherals which include Ethernet, RS-232/422/485, programmable digital I/O, SD socket, and USB ports. Linux 2.6 and busybox utility are preinstalled in the Flash memory while the Gnu C/C++ cross compiler is ready for users to develop their own application software. Besides the busybox utility collection, several ready-to-run software packages are included in the Artila CD, such as openVPN, mysql, php, and Python - quite convenient when time is of the essence. In addition, many application-oriented building blocks such as Wireless LAN, Wireless GRPS/GSM, Bluetooth, GPS and Graphic mode LCM display, USB camera, and keypad are also available.

A wide temperature range version, the M-508T, is designed to withstand environmental extremes. All components housed in the M-508T are industrial grade and ensure continuous operation in -20 to 80 degree Celsius weather conditions. For critical applications that require safekeeping of data during power outages, the M-508T utilizes a 512KB non-volatile RAMTRON F-RAM. Unlike the conventional backup SRAM which needs a battery to retain data, the F-RAM operates without a charge pump, needing no external battery thus increasing system reliability. F-RAM's high performance data read/write and unlimited write endurance characteristics enable users to store important data with confidence.

M-508 and M-508T key features include:

1. ARM9 ATMEL AT91RM9200 180MHz

2. 64MB SDRAM and 32MB Flash

3. 512KB non-volatile F-RAM (M-508T only)

4. One 10/100 Mbps Ethernet port

5. Four 921.6 Kbps RS-232/485 ports

6. Two USB 2.0 Hosts

7. One SD memory card slot

8. 32 CMOS level digital I/O

9. Single +5V power input

10. Foot print: 105 mm x 75 mm

11. OS: Linux 2.6.14 and GNU C/C++ tool chain

Both the M-508 and M-508T will be available by the middle of September. Further information is available from Artila's website, www.artila.com
