This new series of embedded computers is a versatile and powerful standalone computer that supports a Socket 370 Celeron, Pentium(R) III and VIA C3 processors up to 133MHz front side bus (FSB), and features a network engine with Triple LAN and a MiniPCI Type II compatible interface for SCSI, security card and wireless LAN or user-specific application card. The new series is designed to meet a wide range of needs in networking such as routing, VPN, VoIP Gateways, Firewalls, QoS, load balancing, traffic and network management and storage management (RAID, NAS, SAN) and can do so remotely.
The EBC-2000 Series provides a cost-effective, easy medium from which network computing equipment providers, independent software vendors (ISV) and system integrators (SI) can extend connectivity and computing performance, thereby finding a flexible solution for multipurpose expansion of a system (such as complementing a blade server) with a user friendly interface for a network. Notwithstanding the higher processing power in an embedded system of up to 1.2GHz, each embedded computer accommodates space critical applications because of its "CD - ROM" size form factor (5.25"), which fits 3 LAN connectors with Intel's high performing 82559 10/100Mb Ethernet/Fast Ethernet chipset, a 168 - pin DIMM socket for up to 512MB unbuffered PC-133 SDRAM with ECC function (for server capability) and external LED.
Each card hosts a wide range of connectors so it can stand alone anywhere in the network such as featured in network attached storage (NAS) applications and connect multiple nodes via Ethernet/Fast Ethernet. A key feature is the inclusion of a MiniPCI slot that provides a powerful option to add dual LAN connection (for five), SCSI, security card or wireless LAN. Other system-on-a-board features of the EBC-2000 include methods for connecting nodes or external devices are a Bus Master IDE controller, two EIDE interfaces that support up to four IDE devices including hard disk drives (HDD) and ATAPI CD-ROM drives, and supports PIO Mode 3 and Ultra DMA/33/66/100 IDE type devices, an onboard primary and secondary 40-pin IDE ports and supports up to two USB ports.
Standard features include one high-speed bi-directional SPP/EPP/ECP parallel port, a floppy interface that supports two floppy drives, four 16C550 UARTs compatible COM ports (one RS-232 interface and one LCM interface and programmable Watchdog Timer software).
