OpenText Email Management for Microsoft Exchange Enhances Support for Multi-National Deployments

New release of OpenText's Popular Email Management Solution Addresses Needs of Large Organizations Facing Diverse Global Regulatory Landscape

WATERLOO, ON - OpenText(TM) (NASDAQ: OTEX, TSX: OTC) today announced the availability of a new version of OpenText Email Management for Microsoft Exchange featuring improved support for huge or geographically dispersed environments, enhanced records management capabilities and easier and faster administration.

Despite the emergence of enterprise social media, email remains vital to business communication and is an important source of business records in large corporations today. The unchecked growth of email archives is unsustainable due to escalating legal discovery costs and resulting inability to meet compliance and legal requirements. OpenText Email Management for Microsoft Exchange, part of the OpenText ECM Suite, helps to ensure that Global 2000 organizations are able to manage the volume, cost, and risk associated with email messages, while still enabling business users to get their jobs done most effectively.

"Using OpenText Email Management, companies can put in place a common-sense, real-world approach to protecting and saving their business records that lower costs and reduces risk," said Stephen Ludlow, OpenText Senior Product Marketing Manager. "With this release, we focused on reducing the overall cost and effort involved with managing email even for very large global corporations with operations spread across multiple jurisdictions along with a number of other enhancements including improving flexibility in the way records are classified."

Advanced User Email Archive Migration

To support global operations, the OpenText Email Management software now has awareness of multiple archive servers that can be located around the world. With this awareness, archived mail can now be easily moved from a source archive to a destination archive, improving the end user's experience. It also accommodates regulations stipulating that emails considered records must remain in the country of origin by ensuring that those emails stay in the original location.

"Many of our customers, especially large, multinational organizations, need to balance strict regulatory requirements to house data in specific physical locations with the ability to still provide users with immediate and timely access to their information," Ludlow explained. "As users are relocated globally, their archived emails can very easily go along with them and the user experience associated with retrieving archived mails remains unchanged while regulations continue to be met."

Other enhancements include a re-design of the email management assistant; improved metadata capture to better support complex and event-driven retention policies; refined access control to allow archived messages to be based on participants; and general administration improvements and features. It also adds support for 64-bit versions of Microsoft Outlook 2010 clients.

The announcement was made in conjunction with the ARMA International Conference & Expo taking place this week in Washington, D. C. OpenText is exhibiting in booth 321. The conference is the premier educational event for the records and information industry, attended by more than 4,000 information management professionals from around the world.
