Iron Mountain Extends eRecords Management Portfolio with New Active Archiving Service for Email

New service addresses complexities of email management, completes Iron Mountain's Total Email Management Suite

BOSTON, March 12 -- Iron Mountain Incorporated (NYSE:IRM), the global leader in information protection and storage services, today introduced its Active Archiving Service for Email, a comprehensive solution for managing email storage, retention and legal discovery. The new archiving service completes Iron Mountain's Total Email Management Suite - providing email storage management, discovery, continuity, and disaster recovery and security services in a single, integrated, cost-effective solution.

Email is a vital business application, yet its benefits are offset by numerous costs and risks. All companies, regardless of size or industry, must contend with increasing volumes of email that strain the capacity and reliability of their email servers; new eDiscovery regulations that require legally defensible retention policies and quick access to emails in the event of litigation; and the impact to productivity when employees and IT staff spend time managing email instead of focusing on core business activities.

According to the Enterprise Strategy Group, 3 out of 4 electronic discovery events involve e-mail. "Given the growing costs of litigation and increasing regulatory pressures to effectively manage e-mail as a record of the business, there is a great need in the market for an email management solution that enables an efficient and legally defensible eDiscovery policy," said Brian Babineau, senior analyst for The Enterprise Strategy Group. "Now, with the addition of an active archiving solution and other message management capabilities including security and data protection, Iron Mountain is well- positioned to provide a full suite of services that address the common, yet growing email-related issues that companies face, including compliance, security, business continuity, and storage resource utilization."

"With the new amendments to Rule 26 and other Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, it is critical for all companies to have a reliable and cost- effective archiving solution for email," said John Clancy, president of Iron Mountain's Digital business unit. "With Iron Mountain's integrated, managed services, we can help companies mitigate these new risks and exposures, plus manage the traditional burdens of email by eliminating downtime and reducing the costs of storage and management."

The new Active Archiving Service for Email, delivered via a partnership with MessageOne, is available on its own or as part of Iron Mountain's Total Email Management suite, which also includes:

-- Continuity Service for Email, a managed service that can be rapidly activated following a network interruption, facilities outage or other event that disables an organization's primary email system; and

-- Security Service for Email, a managed service that automatically eliminates spam, viruses, and unwanted content from the email environment.

Iron Mountain's Active Archiving Service for Email is a comprehensive managed service for email storage management, archiving and discovery that allows businesses to cost-effectively reduce their email storage burdens, apply granular email retention policies, securely archive email, and enable efficient eDiscovery of messages while providing end-users with easy access.

Additional features of the Active Archiving Service for Email include:

-- Storage Management - reduces the size of email data stores by as much as 80 percent while providing end users with full searchable access to their email.

-- Fully managed service - designed for high availability, security and ease of scaling, that can be deployed in a few hours and easily administered from a single Web console.

-- Retention Management - enables flexible management and auditing of email retention policies and support for litigation holds.

-- eDiscovery - makes it easy for legal counsel and other authorized users to search selected mailboxes or across an entire population and export results to legal review tools.

-- Outlook integration - allows end users to work in their familiar email environment. Provides full, searchable access to email with the ability to restore individual messages.

The Active Arching Service for Email, along with the Total Email Management Suite, is immediately available in the U.S, U.K., Germany and France, with plans to introduce to other countries over the coming months. For the U.S., the Total Email Management Suite pricing starts at $6 per user per month.
