Elster Perfection and National Fuel Celebrate 20 Years of Joint Success in the Development of the Polyethylene Shut-Off Valve

Cleveland, OH, July 16, 2008 Elster Perfection part of Elster Group, the world's leading manufacturer and supplier of highly accurate, high-quality, integrated metering and utilization solutions, and National Fuel, Williamsville, New York, celebrate 20 years of success as partners in the development of the Elster Perfection Polyethylene Shut-Off Valve (PSV).

In 1988, Elster Perfection and National Fuel began collaborative development of the Polyethylene Shut-off Valve. Elster Perfection provided the laboratory testing, manufacturing, marketing and distribution of the product, while National Fuel provided project parameters, engineering expertise and led the evaluation of the field performance of the product during pilot installations.

"Nearly all of Elster Perfection's gas products have been designed with this type of partnership. It allows us to bring innovative new products to the market that solve problems found across the industry," said Dave Robison, Elster Perfection's Director of Engineering.

After more than a year in development, the PSV product line was introduced at the 1989 AGA Distribution/Transmission Conference in New Orleans.

"National Fuel had installed a variety of valves in our system where plastic pipe was being used, but for the last 20 years, the Perfection PSV has been the preferred valve for our service lines and mainlines. This technology has helped us improve the service we offer to our customers and has been of great benefit to our Company," said Kevin House, General Manager of Engineering Services for National Fuel.

As a result of this revolutionary design concept and proprietary molding process, Elster Perfection's PSV product line offers proven performance and total compatibility with all PE gas distribution systems. PSV valves are an excellent choice for replacing non-PE plastic curb valves and metallic valves, as well as for new installations on polyethylene mains and services. The polyethylene construction of PSV valves eliminates the need for metal-to-plastic transitions, as well as corrosion inhibiting coatings, cathodic protection, federally mandated corrosion control inspection, and the record keeping required of metallic valves.
