ELM Now Offers Contract Blending of Greases & Lubricants

Since 2000, ELM has been the only US based manufacturer and packager exclusively focused on Biobased Lubricants and Greases. Historically, ELM manufactured and packaged their proprietary and also their private label products for leading lubricant retailers in the US. Recently, however, the company made the decision to offer contract blending and packaging services to the industry in addition to doing the manufacturing for their branded and private label customers.

"We have a vast built-in expertise and have become extremely efficient in manufacturing our biobased lubricants and greases very economically", said Alan Burgess, ELM's Operations Manager, "we have established ourselves as a low cost source for contract packaging. We regularly fill grease in squeeze tubes, tubs, cartridges, and our lubricants ship out in containers ranging in size from 2 ounce dropper bottles up to 275 gallon totes or larger vessels." Burgess added.

In 2009, ELM relocated to an 87,000 sq-ft facility in Grundy Center, Iowa and installed the first of its kind microwave based grease manufacturing operation unit. The company manufactures lithium and lithium complex greases, food grade, clay based, aluminum complex, and calcium-based greases. On the fluid lubricant side, ELM has an extensive line of products including hydraulic fluids, penetrants, gear oils, biobased dust suppressants, and many specialty lubricants.

"We have the capability to produce grease in small batches with quick turnaround times. Those two factors help our customers reduce their lead times and their on-hand inventories," stated Mike Jensen, ELM Product Manager.

According to Les Cohn, ELM CEO, "We found that there was a need in the industry for producing specialty greases in smaller batches as well as packaging smaller quantities of each unit size." He went on to say, "ELM's lower minimums and unique packaging capabilities are the perfect solution to those needs. Lower minimum order requirements equal lower out of pocket costs per order and that can mean significant savings. We save our clients money and headaches." he added.

According to Burgess, "ELM has an excess production capacity of between 5 to10 million pounds at this time and we would like to put that to good use. We've found that offering these new services is a win-win. We're very pleased to be able to offer these services as a viable option for businesses that don't have a need for huge batch orders and can't wait for weeks on end to get their orders delivered."
