GE Enters New Territory with 347-Volt High-Efficiency Instant-Start UltraMax® and Proline® Ballasts, Achieves Industry's Lowest Input Watts

CLEVELAND, OH. - GE Consumer & Industrial vastly expands its trusted line of high-efficiency GE UltraMax® and Proline® ballasts available in Canada with the introduction of new 347-volt offerings that are among the industry's highest-efficiency electronic T8 ballasts. Eligible for most utility rebate programs, the 347-volt GE UltraMax® T8 ballast delivers an efficiency performance that exceeds 90 percent, qualifying it as a NEMA Premium Standard product.

"We're bringing the performance of GE UltraMax® ballasts for high-bay applications to all of Canada, since we now offer both 120-volt and 347-volt ballasts," says Jeff Plaskon, ballast product manager, GE Consumer & Industrial.

The robust design of the new 347-volt GE UltraMax® T8 ballast-its high efficiency circuits, high quality magnetics and components, and superior thermal management-significantly reduces ballast energy consumption by 5 to 7 percent versus generic electronic ballasts. It also operates in series-parallel mode, a unique feature that keeps lamps in a fixture working when another lamp fails.

Engineered to work in any fixture tray, GE UltraMax® and Proline® ballasts can be used in combinations of low, normal and high ballast factor applications. The can design (metal housing of the ballast) is the industry's smallest, measuring 8.9 inches x 1.3 inches x 1.18 inches. It will house 1, 2, 3 or 4 lamp fixtures. GE's size advantage ensures that its ballasts will fit virtually every application, making it an especially attractive solution for fixture manufacturers.

The 347-volt GE UltraMax® ballast offers excellent thermal control. It starts at -30 degrees Celsius (-22 degrees Fahrenheit), and when combined with qualifying fixtures could receive UltraCool System Certification, which offers the manufacturer of the qualifying fixture a 5-year, 55-degree Celsius (131 degree Fahrenheit) ambient temperature limited warranty. "This is particularly important to businesses operating high-bay lighting," notes Plaskon.

The new ballast is CEE Compliant (Consortium for Energy Efficiency). It can be used to accrue points for project LEED® certification. GE UltraMax® ballasts also are RoHS compliant (the European Union's Restriction of Hazardous Substances directive).
