New Starrett Electronic Micrometers Resist Coolant, Water & Shop Contaminants while Maintaining Accuracy

ATHOL, MASSACHUSETTS U.S.A. (November 13, 2006) - Today, The L.S. Starrett Company introduced the completely new 795 and 796 Series' of Electronic Micrometers. The new 795 and 796 micrometers combine Starrett precision and reliability with IP67 level protection from the foreign matter often present in hostile shop environments. In addition to being coolant and water resistant, 795 and 796 micrometers offer excellent protection against chips, dirt, dust and other contaminants.

With IP67 protection, 795 and 796 micrometers are ideal for harsh manufacturing environments. According to IEC529, IP67 stands for a "6" protection against ingress of dust and particles and a "7" protection against the effects of immersion in water under stated conditions of pressure and time.

In addition to IP67 protection, the 795 and 796 Electronic Micrometers have numerous user-convenient features. An extra large, .275" (7mm), high-contrast LCD digital readout is easy to read. Simple, push-button features provide zero at any position and retain / return to the true zero reading of the micrometer and instant inch / millimeter conversion. The micrometers also include a measurement HOLD button.

As with all Starrett tools, the 795 and 796 micrometers offer exceptional precision. They feature 0.00005" and 0.001mm resolution and accuracies of ±.0001" (±.002mm).

The 795 micrometer includes an RS232 output port for data transmission through a conventional wire or by connecting to a Starrett DataSure(TM)· Wireless Data Collection System End Node. (796 models do not have output capability.)

The micrometers also include several new design features for optimal comfort and accuracy such as a tapered and balanced insulated frame, Starrett no-glare satin chrome finish on the thimble and sleeve, micro-lapped carbide measuring faces, and an extremely hard and stable one-piece spindle. Both friction shell and ratchet stop / speeder versions will be offered with spindle locks.

795 and 796 micrometers include two CR2032 batteries for dependable power and over one-year's normal usage. To extend battery life, the micrometers feature automatic off after 20 minutes of non-use.

Initially, 795 and 796 micrometers will be offered in the 0-1" (0-25mm) range with sizes up to 4" (100mm) to follow over the next few months.
