Advance Introduces Versatile New Ballast for Operation of One, Two, Three or Four T5/HO Fluorescent Lamps

Another Smart Solution-Powered by Advance(TM)

Advance Transformer Co., Rosemont, Illinois, is pleased to announce the introduction of a new Centium® electronic ballast, ICN-4S54-90C-2LS, for the operation of one, two, three or four F54T5/HO fluorescent lamps. The ballast also operates 36/39W, 50W, and 55W long twin tube lamps, as well as F58T8 lamps. The ballast's multi-lamp versatility opens many new application possibilities for fluorescent lighting.

Ballast Makes Possible Substantial SKU Inventory Reductions
Featuring IntelliVolt® technology, the ICN-4S54-90C-2LS ballast operates one, two, three or four lamps, at any input voltage between 120 and 277 volts, 50/60 Hz. This allows fixture manufacturers, distributors, contractors and end-users to significantly reduce their ballast SKU inventory requirements, while also reducing the possibility of errors in shipping and installation. Ballast Factor remains consistent, regardless of whether the ballast operates one, two, three or four lamps.

High-Low Switching Capabilities Provide Energy Saving Opportunities
In addition to reducing SKU requirements, the ballast's ability to operate several different lamp quantities makes a number of other benefits possible. One such benefit is the energy savings potential offered by the ballast's novel high-low switching option. This feature, which makes the ballast California Energy Commission (CEC) Title 24 compatible, allows a fixture to be switched from operating four lamps to two lamps, three lamps to two lamps, or three lamps to one lamp. Switching can be accomplished through the use of a variety of devices, including manual switches, occupancy sensors, ambient light sensors and other controls.

Application Versatility, 90° C Case Temperature Rating
The simplicity and adaptability of the ballast's wiring make it ideal for a variety of applications. Possible applications include general office, architectural, direct/indirect, accent and cove lighting. Additionally, the ballast's versatility makes T5/HO fluorescent lighting a viable alternative to hi-bay HID lighting in factories, warehouses and other facilities. Not only will ICN-4S54-90C-2LS powered T5/HO lighting deliver substantial energy savings over HID in such applications, it also provides a variety of other benefits, including improved color and lumen maintenance, light level controllability, and instant restrike capability. The ballast features semi-independent lamp operation, which allows some light output from a fixture to continue should one lamp fail. The ICN-4S54-90C-2LS has a temperature rating of 90°C, which makes it ideal for high ambient temperature applications.

The ballast's versatility of application is further enhanced by 20-foot remote mounting, 0°F cold starting and auto-restart capabilities. Other features include programmed-rapid start ignition for extended lamp life in frequent starting conditions, lamp end-of-life protection circuitry, and color-coded poke-in connectors for simplified, accurate wiring and installation. The ballast's specifications include Total Harmonic Distortion of less than 10% and Power Factor greater than 98%. The ballast operates at a frequency between 40 kHz and 54 kHz, preventing interference with infrared control systems or commonly used electronic article surveillance (EAS) systems.

Lightweight, Low-Profile Housing Expands Fixture Design Possibilities
The ballast's 1-inch high, low-profile, lightweight housing gives fixture designers maximum flexibility in creating new generation products. It is Type CC rated for anti-arcing protection, UL Approved and CSA Certified. The ballast is warranted for five years of operation at 70°C or three years at 90°C.
