Advanced Electron Beams Revolutionizes Aseptic Bottle Filling with New Sterilization Technology

Electron beam sterilization technology enables aseptic filling of bottles with less energy, lighter package weight and dramatic water savings, while improving efficiency and enhancing bottom line

WILMINGTON, Mass. and MUNICH, Sept. 14 / / - Advanced Electron Beams (AEB), whose compact electron beam technology enables traditional manufacturers become more environmentally sustainable while improving profitability, today announced at Drinktec 2009 in Munich, Germany the availability of the e25ITB, an electron beam emitter designed for sterilizing the interior surfaces of bottle shaped packaging. This breakthrough in electron beam sterilization technology enables a new class of aseptic and extended shelf life filling approaches for beverage bottles.

"Beverage manufacturers around the world are eager to address consumer demand for more healthful product offerings and for more sustainable packaging at lower cost," said Mitch Tyson, CEO of Advanced Electron Beams. "AEB's bottle sterilization technology for aseptic packaging will let the beverage industry continue to innovate with new products and new package concepts, while reducing environmental footprint of the packaging process."

The e25ITB emitter brings AEB's proven sterilization technology, already used for flexible packaging and cap applications, to bottle filling. Surfaces of packaging material are sterilized at high speeds with a stream of energetic electrons. Since no chemicals are used, there is no need to rinse or dry the material and no risk of residual chemical sterilants contaminating the packaged product. Electron beam treatment is a room temperature process, allowing manufacturers to use lighter packaging material. Furthermore, by eliminating non-value added steps, filling systems based on AEB's technology will be smaller, saving valuable production floor space. With the lowest operating cost of any bottle sterilization technology, AEB's e25ITB emitter enables a more profitable path to sustainable beverage packaging.

AEB is showcasing the e25ITB technology in Hall B5, Stand 222 at Drinktec 2009 at the Messe Munchen in Munich, Germany from September 14-19.
