Sylvania Introduces The Advanced Illumination Technology of the DURA-ONE Electrodeless Compact Fluorescent Lamp

New York, N.Y. (April 12-14, 2005) - Lighting leader OSRAM SYLVANIA offers users unparalleled compact fluorescent lamp technology and performance with the introduction of the DURA-ONE(TM) electrodeless compact fluorescent lamp (CFL). The advanced illumination technology of the SYLVANIA DURA-ONE lamp raises the standard for compact fluorescent performance to new heights.
DURA-ONE lamps are affordable, direct replacements for medium-base incandescent and compact fluorescent lamps. They offer a possible energy savings up to 75% and a life at up to 20 times longer than standard incandescent lamps. Compared to standard compact fluorescent lamps, DURA-ONE lamps have one and a half to two and a half times longer life.

The DURA-ONE lamps use advanced magnetic induction technology, eliminating the need for coils that eventually wear out and cause ordinary compact fluorescent lamps to fail. This new technology gives way to a lamp that boasts a rated life of 15,000 hours, compared to 6,000 to 10,000 hours for typical medium-base compact fluorescent lamps. Longer life means fewer lamp replacements and lower maintenance costs, making this lamp perfect for applications where re-lamping is difficult.

The amalgam technology in the DURA-ONE lamp delivers high light output over a wider temperature range than ordinary compact fluorescent lamps, providing 90% of it's rated light output from 25° F to 150° F with reliable starting at temperatures as low as 0° F. The DURA-ONE also offers flicker-free, instant-on starting and almost instantly provides bright warm light, with a color temperature of 2700 K, and a color rendering index (CRI) of 82.

The DURA-ONE, currently available as a 23-watt BR30, can replace a 65-watt BR30 incandescent lamp, saving $63 in energy costs over the life of the lamp (based on $0.10/kW), while providing almost twice the light output and up to 7.5-times longer life. The 20-Watt A19 lamp, available soon, will save $120 in energy costs over the life of the lamp (based on $0.10/kWh) and last up 20-times longer compared to the 100-watt incandescent lamp it can replace. The DURA-ONE lamps are perfect for lighting in extreme temperature environments, difficult to service areas, outdoor lighting and frequently cycled applications, including areas that use occupancy sensors.
