Startup Firm Announces Breakthrough Electrical Co-Generator for Small Businesses

Startup firm, VECTOR CoGen, unveiled the first-of-its-kind electrical co-generator for small businesses at the Air-Conditioning, Heating and Refrigerating Exposition (AHR Expo) in Anaheim, CA. Targeted at small, stand-alone businesses such as fast-food restaurants, laundromats and convenience stores, the VECTOR unit produces on-site, electrical power at a savings of 20%-50% over the utility company.

February 4, 2004, Anaheim, CA-VECTOR CoGen announced today the release of its electrical co-generator for small businesses. Co-generators are natural gas- or propane-powered systems that produce on-site electricity for 20%-50% less than the utility company. In addition, co-generators use the heat created during generation to provide the user with "free" hot water and/or thermal heat--hence the term "co-generator".

Until now, expensive co-generation systems were only available to large, industrial customers. VECTOR's system marks the first time that affordable, state-of-the-art, co-generation technology has been made available to small businesses.

In much the same way as personal computers displaced large, centralized mainframes, many industry observers believe that small, distributed generation systems like VECTOR's will eventually displace large, centralized power plants. VECTOR's unit is able to produce power less expensively because power plants typically lose 10%-15% of the electricity that is passed through miles of transmission lines. In addition, most power plants simply vent the heat created during generation "up the stack", creating the steam clouds that appear over most power plants.
