ITT Develops Next Generation UEC, J1772 and GB-Certified EV Connector

2nd Generation Electric Vehicle Connector, EVC Series, Delivers Faster Charge Time and Improved Reliability SANTA ANA, CA - ITT Interconnect Solutions, a leading global manufacturer and supplier of connectors, interconnects and cable assemblies, has developed the 2nd Generation J1772 electric vehicle connector. The EVC Series provides fast and reliable charging for all electric and hybrid vehicles, and is ITT ICS' second product offering for this growth market. The EVC Series connector follows substantial developmental investments in electric vehicle charging solutions and the successful launch of its first EV connector in summer 2010. ITT ICS provides the only US-certified J1772 interconnect capable of delivering a 75A charge, which results in a charging time that is 2.5 times faster than 30A offerings from other industry suppliers. The new 2nd Generation SAE standard J1772 201001 is now available, and IEC and GB charging interfaces for Europe and Asia will be launched in the coming weeks. The ITT ICS 2nd Generation J1772 connector has been developed for AC Level 1 and Level 2 charging systems for the electric vehicle market, EV, EVSE and plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) vehicles. The charging system is built in accordance with the SAE® standard J1772 201001 (current revisions) specifications, and are approved by regional test laboratories worldwide. Consisting of the J2CE Connector and the J2IV inlet, the system is designed for a minimum of 10,000 cycles of mechanical operation and meets UL50 Type 3R/3S sealing for weather protection. "Our 2nd Generation J1772 electric vehicle connector has a new ergonomically friendly handle shape and textured for improved grip. The locking latch mechanism is exposed and raised from the handle body, allowing for ease of engagement to standard inlets. This is an important design factor as EV drivers handle the connector on a daily basis. We have also extended the range of cables the connector will accommodate to satisfy the different preferences we see in each region of the world," said Ted Worroll, Global RF product manager at ITT.
