Porter-Cable's New Electric Drills Deliver Power and Speed

June 20, 2002 - NEW YORK CITY, NY - Porter-Cable Corporation announced today the introduction of four new electric drills - two 3/8" units and two 1/2" units - during a press conference at the Hotel InterContinental in New York City. Porter-Cable Product Manager Todd Craft said, "Our new electric drills achieve the optimal balance of power and speed while offering a host of other user-friendly features."

Porter-Cable's engineers redesigned their drill line with one goal in mind - superior performance. The improved drill motors incorporate a more efficient fan design to create cooler operation. By reducing current density during commutation, longer-lasting brush systems ensure a longer tool life. Moreover, Porter-Cable engineers have reduced the number of parts in each brush assembly from seven in previous models to three in the new design, which makes them easier to service and maintain.

The new models utilize a magnesium bearing plate for lighter weight and longer life. Also, a fully redesigned train of precision machined and hardened gears extends the life of the new drills over their predecessors. Enhanced ergonomics provide multiple gripping positions to minimize fatigue and reduce the risk of repetitive motion injury. A convenient belt clip can be attached to either side of the drill, or removed altogether (depending on the user's preference).

Both 3/8" drills offer the same set of features with one distinction - the model 2610 features a premium quality Yukiwa keyless chuck, while the model 2611 provides a keyed chuck. Otherwise, they both tout a beefy 7 Amp, 0-2,500 RPM variable speed motor. Available in June, the model 2610 is expected to sell for approximately $90 while the model 2611 has an approximate street price of $95.

The two 1/2" drills offer the same set of features with the same distinction as the 3/8" models - the model 2614 features a premium quality Yukiwa keyless chuck, while the model 2615 has a
keyed chuck. Otherwise, they both tout a powerful 7.8 Amp, 0-850 RPM variable speed motor. Available in June, the model 2614 is expected to sell for approximately $135 while the model 2615 has an approximate street price of $125.
