Microsoft has strengthened password protection in Office 2007, further improving its strength in Office 2010. The newly updated Elcomsoft Advanced Office Password Recovery, in addition to Microsoft Office 2010 support, introduces the ability to use multiple CPUs and CPU cores found in modern computers, and further boosts recovery speeds by offloading resource-intensive computations onto graphic processors (GPU) found in modern video cards manufactured by ATI and NVIDIA. The proprietary GPU acceleration algorithm is patent-pending, and speeds up password recovery for Office 2007 and 2010 documents 20 to 40 times compared to Intel top of the line CPUs.
To further boost the recovery speed, Elcomsoft enables support for multiple video cards and simultaneous operation of all CPU and GPU cores. All or some CPU/GPU cores can be designated to the password recovery task, enabling maximum performance or allowing for nonintrusive background processing.
