Rogers' EL Driver Module Simplifies Design and Board Mounting

DUREL® Driver Module provides a turnkey, integrated solution to power Electroluminescent (EL) Lamps

Chandler, Arizona, October 7, 2005: Rogers Corporation (NYSE:ROG) announced the introduction of the D381B electroluminescent (EL) driver module - the newest addition to its DUREL® integrated driver product line.

The D381B driver is another "stand-alone" EL driver module solution developed by Rogers that combines all external, discrete components required to backlight monochrome displays and keypads into a single, cost-effective chip. This small, integrated driver module provides a turn-key solution - for simple application designs as well as quick and easy board mounting.

Rob Kimball, business development manager of the Durel Division of Rogers states, "Because their Bill of Materials are reduced by seven components, our customers prefer our modular drivers - it simplifies their inventory and purchasing process. As with our other integrated drivers, the D381B module cuts down on the number of suppliers from four to one while providing ease of design and assembly."

The small, 5mm X 7mm D381B driver has a power inductor already imbedded inside the module. It operates with a wide DC input voltage range (2.0 to 6.0V) to fit various types of electronic applications and battery technologies. The D381B module's high efficiency is well suited for wireless communications devices, such as PDAs, handsets, and other electronic applications.

The D381B integrated module utilizes Rogers' patented three-port (3P) topology for reduction of audible and electrical noise. It also features internally controlled current discharge for additional reduction of audible and electrical noise. All of Rogers' EL drivers, including the new D381B module, are RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) and WEEE (Waste of Electric and Electronic Equipment) compliant. Samples of the leadless / lead-free D381B module are currently available from stock.
