Ejection/Insertion Handle exerts forces higher than 200 N.

Press Release Summary:

Addressing requirements of PICMG 3.0 specification, inject/eject hot swap handle for AdvancedTCA(TM) boards is ergonomically designed with intuitive open/close mechanism that separates switch actuation of hot-swap microswitch from inject/eject process. Dual-stage design permits board to shut down electronically before mechanical ejection process begins. Handle locks in open position, preventing accidental board insertion and reducing tilting of board while inserting.

New AdvancedTCA(TM) Inject/Eject Hot Swap Handle Now Available From Schroff®

Warwick, RI, June 2004 - Schroff®, the global leader in electronic enclosure solutions, has introduced a new hot swap handle for AdvancedTCA(TM) boards that addresses the requirements of the PICMG 3.0 specification. The patented hot swap handle was ergonomically designed with an intuitive open/close mechanism that separates the switch actuation of the hot-swap microswitch from the inject/eject process. This simple and cost-effective two-stage design permits the board to shut down electronically before the mechanical ejection process begins.

The new handle, which can be used for the injection and extraction of boards at forces higher than 200 N, is ideal for applications where both high insertion force and hot swap functionality are required. These features are often required in high performance applications such as telecom, networking, and security where high power and high pin count density are often found.

In addition to improving the robustness of the switch interface and reducing stress on the switch, the new handle locks in the open position to prevent accidental board insertion into the slot and to greatly reduce tilting of the board when inserting. The handle can be used with extruded or sheet metal front panels and other custom AdvancedTCA panels.

The cost-effective handle combines a simple design with the robust performance needed to address demanding AdvancedTCA design constraints. These include a reliable switch interface, a robust board mounting scheme, and maximizing the available front panel space.

Pricing for the new AdvancedTCA inject/eject hot swap handle starts at $2.50. Delivery is stock. Samples are available upon request.
