EH&E Partners with Goucher College to Undertake Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory

Needham, Mass. - June 2, 2009 - Environmental Health & Engineering (EH&E), Inc., a leading Massachusetts-based environmental and engineering consulting firm, recently partnered with Goucher College (Baltimore, MD) to complete a greenhouse gas emissions inventory as required by the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment.

The commitment requires participating colleges and universities to complete an inventory of all their greenhouse gas emissions. The college or university must also develop a Climate Action Plan for becoming "climate neutral", reducing or offsetting all greenhouse gas emissions associated with campus operations

"EH&E worked closely with Goucher's administration to gather the necessary data to complete the greenhouse gas emissions inventory," said Michael Crowley, M.S., LEED AP, Pathways to Campus Sustainability Program Manager at EH&E.

"As part of the effort EH&E examined the college's energy consumption; its direct emissions, which include stationary, mobile, and fugitive greenhouse gas emissions; and indirect emissions, which includes purchased energy; commuting, air travel, waste disposal, contractor operations, and purchased goods and services. EH&E additionally examined the college's composting practices, as well as its purchase of carbon offsets and/or Renewable Energy Certificates," he said.

The greenhouse gas inventory effort will provide the necessary benchmark for development of a Climate Action Plan, or detailed program for carbon reduction.

Goucher's (http://www.goucher.edu) commitment to environmental sustainability is a key component of the college's most recent strategic plan.
