EDL's Tray Former / Loader System

"EDL provides technologies and engineering to configure systems that meet special and
often unique customer requirements. We listen, study, design and deliver value."

EDL's Tray Former / Loader System

Last month, EDL started up a new integrated wrapping system for a customer that produces bricks
of vacuum packed coffee. The system consists of a Product Collator, Tray Former/Loader, and Side
Feed Automatic Shrink Bundler.

The integrated system was purchased to replace equipment from other OEMs that was not
performing well. A second EDL Tray Former/Loader and Shrink Bundler has also been purchased
for start up later this summer to replace an older EDL system that has been in operation for over 20
years.

These systems operate by automatically accepting product in a single stream from the Vacuum
Packer and collating it into 3 x 4 or 4 x 6 packs of bricks with a pneumatic pusher. A tray is formed
from a blank by the tray former, and the collation is loaded into it. The loaded tray transfers to the
infeed of the wrapper and is pushed 90o by a pneumatic transfer unit through the web of LDPE film
and across the seal jaw. The seal jaw closes, creating a sleeve of film around the pack. The sleeved
pack is conveyed through the shrink tunnel hood where the film is shrunk tightly around the pack to
form a bull's eye enclosure. These systems operate at 80 bricks per minute. They have a
significantly smaller footprint, and use less energy than the systems they are replacing.

EDL also offers turnkey system design, supply, and integration from the standpoint of a 'total
solution' approach.
