Technology part of wireless incident management system to improve command response and safety
SALEM, N.H. — Edge Velocity Corporation today announced a contract with Raytheon Intelligence, Information and Services to provide secure wireless communications capabilities for the company's CommandPad system, an incident management system designed to share critical data and improve situation awareness for first responders in extreme urban environments. The Edge Velocity contract with Raytheon covers systems and support over a two year period.
Highly secure, self-healing and rapidly deployed wireless IP networking systems from Edge Velocity are a key element of the Raytheon CommandPad system. In a typical deployment, ladder trucks, incident command vehicles and division chief cars are all equipped with Edge Interlock™ Routers to provide robust wireless communications from the scene of an incident. In addition, man-portable Rapid Deploy Routers extend the local area networks and the CommandPad system into buildings, subways and other challenging environments, providing critical communication capabilities even a few blocks from the vehicle-based routers deployed at the incident area.
The Raytheon CommandPad system incorporates several elements of the Edge Velocity wireless networking system including capabilities of its Intelligent Base Station and the 802.11 standards-compliant Edge Interlock™ Routing Protocol (Edge IRP). Edge IRP uniquely enables extraordinary signal reach in the highly challenging situations encountered by many urban firefighters, including the interior of high-rise buildings and underground areas, as well as water-based incidents and highly dense RF environments. The Edge Velocity mesh networks feature automatic node identification and certification, guaranteed Quality of Service and high-speed mobile communications.
"Edge Velocity is honored to be a key participant in this pioneering application developed by Raytheon and being rolled out by the Fire Department of New York City," said Paula C. Beauregard, CEO of Edge Velocity. "Our field-proven solutions deliver reliable wireless communications even in the midst of extreme, rapid-response situations like those encountered in New York City."
The deployment of CommandPad to the FDNY is being completed under a prime contract with iXP Corporation.
Edge Velocity markets a comprehensive set of wireless IP solutions known as the Edge Interlock™ Suite. This family of products includes:
- Edge Intelligent Base Station (IBS), a fixed outdoor wireless router that provides the "core mesh cloud" of saturation-averse, secure high-bandwidth 802.11 networks.
- Edge Vehicle Mounted Router (VMR), a rugged, compact unit that communicates voice, real-time video and data at high speeds.
- Edge Rapid Deploy Router (RDR), a compact, battery-powered lightweight router housed in a rugged case along with multiple radios, flat-panel antenna and high-definition video camera that enables communications within the heart of the incident area.
- Edge Velocity Datapath Optimizer (EVDO), a multipurpose wireless gateway router that bridges commercial cellular, secure Wi-Fi and fixed local area networks to create wide area networks.
