Software System's ITS capabilities helping County deliver more than just reduced traffic congestion
Anaheim, Calif., -Econolite, today announced it has reached a major milestone with the successful deployment of a Centracs Advanced Transportation Management System (ATMS) in the Orange County city of Newport Beach, Calif. The Centracs software system will help the City and Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) to continue delivering on its strategic mission to provide Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) solutions that enhance quality of life in the county.
To date, Econolite's Centracs ATMS has been ordered or deployed by nine Orange County cities, including: Anaheim, Brea, Garden Grove, Laguna Hills, Laguna Niguel, Laguna Woods, Lake Forest, Mission Viejo, and Newport Beach. "As part of the strategies and solutions to address our evolving travel demands, OCTA is implementing signal synchronization to 750 miles of roadway arterials, which includes more than 2,000 intersections," said Ron Keith, Principal Traffic Engineer for OCTA. "This synchronization program spans all cities within the county, requiring tremendous interjurisdictional coordination and cooperation and the transportation management technologies that support our overall goals."
Understanding that roadway corridors and arterials don't necessarily end at city boundaries, Centracs has quickly been accepted as an ATMS of choice by many neighboring transportation agencies. A particular feature is the software's agency-sharing capabilities.
