Eaton Strainers Earn Type Approval Designation from American Bureau of Shipping

Ship builders and owners can confidently choose Eaton, a global provider of innovative filtration solutions for the marine industry, for reliable marine filtration solutions

TINTON FALLS, N.J. –The American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) has added several of Eaton's simplex and duplex pipeline strainers to its list of Type Approved products. This distinction, which was awarded after a rigorous inspection of the strainers design and manufacturing process, helps ship owners and builders identify products that conform to a recognized set of regulatory, technical and safety requirements.

The Type Approval from ABS includes Eaton's Model 72 and 73 simplex strainers for applications where the pipeline can be temporarily shut down to clean or change out a strainer basket and Eaton's Model 53BTX duplex strainers, which are designed for applications where shutting down processes to clean strainers is not an option.

"In the middle of the ocean, the reliability of shipboard systems is crucial", said Mary Jo Surges, vice president and general manager, Eaton's Filtration Division. "ABS Type Approval provides our customers with piece of mind that Eaton strainers will live up to the rigors of marine service."

Available in sizes ½" to 3" threaded and 1" to 6" flanged, the Model 72 strainer is offered in ductile iron, carbon steel, stainless steel and bronze. The Model 53 BTX strainer is available in sizes ¾" to 4" threaded and flanged and is offered in carbon steel, stainless steel and bronze. The Model 73 strainer is available in sizes 14" to 18" in cast iron, 10" to 18" in ductile iron and 10" to 16" in bronze.

Eaton's simplex and duplex strainers are proven to stand up to applications and environments where filtration is crucial. Based on the range of material options available, they  are suitable for use with salt or fresh water and in fuel oil or lube oil applications.
