Omni-ID Unveils View 10; e-Paper Replacement for Build Books Transforms Materials Flow Management

10-Inch Low Profile Display Delivers Next Generation Technology for Intelligent Supply Chains in Large Capital Goods Manufacturing

ROCHESTER, N.Y., — Omni-ID, the world’s leading provider of RFID and visual-tagging solutions for industrial applications, has unveiled the View 10, expanding its award-winning suite of ProVIEW intelligent supply chain enablement solutions.

The View 10 features a paper-size (10 inch), low profile and lightweight display specifically designed as a “build book” replacement for large capital goods manufacturing. Fitting seamlessly in the pocket, slot or hanger of existing bins or other on-floor transport systems, it combines advanced RFID, infrared and WiFi communications technologies to drive real-time intelligence to operators at the point of assembly while also returning advanced analytics to plant management. Each e-tag can be automatically or manually triggered to display custom instructions at different locations on the factory floor, and remotely updated instantaneously as priorities and build schedules fluctuate.

“The View 10 not only replaces paper work instructions, but also allows constantly updated materials tracking throughout the entire manufacturing process – solving one of the most significant information gaps in manufacturing material flows today,” said George Daddis, chief executive officer of Omni-ID. “This type of advanced process visibility takes on even greater importance as manufacturers seek more data points to help uncover inefficiencies on the line. We’re feeding analytics packages that are making a significant difference in throughput at a time when corporations are looking for more ways to be globally competitive. We’ve brought the Internet of Things to the plant floor.”

The ProVIEW system has been installed in multiple Fortune 100 manufacturing facilities, including four of the world’s top automotive companies. Detroit, a subsidiary of Daimler Trucks North America and the leading manufacturer of on-highway heavy-duty diesel engines and axles for the commercial truck market, recently presented its use of the system at the RFID Journal Live conference.

In addition, the ProVIEW system has been deployed at Whirlpool’s advanced, high-volume washing machine plant in Ohio,

Frost & Sullivan had the privilege of being the first to view the demonstration for the analysis of the product View 10 from Omni-ID at RFID Journal Live 2014, Orlando, FL.  Based on the demonstration and the understanding of Omni-ID’s product suite and the market, “The ‘Internet of Things’ has quickly moved beyond consumer use cases, but had yet to penetrate the factory floor down to the individual bin and part level because of technological and integration hurdles,” said Ram Ravi, Senior Research Analyst, Auto-ID and Data Capture, Frost and Sullivan. “With its ProVIEW system, Omni-ID has solved that issue, and is changing the manufacturing landscape. With high-impact installations across multiple vertical markets showing its potential, the company has raised the bar for the future of intelligent supply chain data collection and on-floor application.”

With the aim of dramatically modernizing the forty year-old, paper-intensive Kanban process, the ProVIEW System creates or enhances intelligent supply chains by tracking and tracing parts required for batch builds; enabling more flexible and responsive assembly by automatically labeling quality errors and reworking instructions in real time; and supplying data for advanced analytics on operator and process efficiency. In addition, the e-paper solution replaces the paper, ink and toner from legacy processes for substantial environmental and cost advantages.

Omni-ID and its ProVIEW system have been recognized for leadership and customer value in manufacturing by Frost and Sullivan, as well as having won or been nominated for the Best in Show at the RFID Journal LIVE! Conference for three consecutive years (2012, 2013 and 2014).
