Dutch Fertilizer Manufacturer Selects New Frame 5-2E Gas Turbine From GE Oil & Gas

FLORENCE, ITALY - March 20, 2006 - Yara Sluiskil B.V. of the Netherlands will replace a gas turbine at its fertilizer plant in Sluiskil with an MS5002E (Frame 5-2E) gas turbine from GE's Oil & Gas business, marking the first project for this new GE technology.

Operating in a cogeneration mode with a waste heat recovery generator, the new machine will produce 30 megawatts of electrical power for the plant and 50 tons per hour of steam to be used for production processes. Yara Sluiskil B.V. produces 3.5 million tons of nitrogenous fertilizer per year.

Yara Sluiskil B.V. also has signed a 15-year, GE contractual service agreement for the same project. The agreement includes an extended warranty on the equipment, an availability guarantee, supply of capital spare parts and full coverage for 15 years of planned maintenance, as well as provisions for unplanned maintenance activities.

Offering higher efficiency and lower emissions than other machines in its class, the Frame 5-2E gas turbine is available for both power generation and mechanical drive applications. It is the newest member of GE's fleet of Frame 5 gas turbines, which has recorded more than 16 million of hours of service worldwide. The new 30-megawatt class, two-shaft machine combines state-of-the-art, heavy duty gas turbine technology with proven design concepts for high levels of reliability.

The Frame 5-2E for the Sluiskil plant will be manufactured and tested in GE's Oil & Gas facilities in Florence and Massa, Italy, and will be shipped to the project site in April of 2007. Commercial start-up is planned for September 2007.

The machine will use natural gas from the Netherlands gas grid. Two gas compositions may be used (G-gas and H-gas), and the gas turbine train will have the capability to automatically switch from one gas composition to another, or to any mixture of the two, with no interruption in operation.

In addition to the gas turbine, GE is supplying a three-phase synchronous generator, a diesel generator for black start duty, installation and training services.

"We are very pleased that our new technology was selected against major international competition," said Joe Mastrangelo, general manager of commercial operations for GE's Oil & Gas business. "This project is the latest in our 30-year relationship with Yara Sluiskil, which also was the first company to install our upgraded GE 10 gas turbine a few years ago. In addition, GE has previously supplied a steam turbine-generator set and several reciprocating and centrifugal compressors to this customer."
