Dust Collection of Dyes and Pigments

A long time manufacturer of dyes and pigments that are used for the tinting and coloring of leather products has developed a three-year plan to improve the air quality and reduce the amount of airborne dusts in their grinding, mixing and packaging areas. Providing a safe and healthy work environment is the goal.

Recently a Sternpulse cartridge style dust collector was installed on the roof, with dust collection barrels located in the building. The Model SPV 0607, features six filter cartridges, with a total filter area of 660 sq. ft. Powered by a 1/12 HP top mounted, backward inclined fan, the system handles 2,500 CFM.

A direct drive fan with discharge damper, instead of a belt drive fan, was selected because it does not require maintenance of drive belts and bearings. Explosion relief vents are included. A magnehelic gauge measures the filter resistance. The filters are changed every summer during the plant shutdown.

The model SPV 0607 is one of four styles of jet pulse dust collectors manufactured by Sternvent. Other applications include steel grinding, pharmaceutical manufacturing, spice blending, welding smoke and pet food manufacturing.

Established in 1952, Sternvent specializes in small to medium size dust collectors (1,000 - 15,000 CFM) which include high efficiency cyclones, compact shaker units with manual or motorized shaker, Jet-Pulse bag and cartridge units, and oil mist collectors used in maintenance facilities, and the chemical, metalworking, and woodworking industries. Equipment is available with basic modifications such as special filter media, alternate blower, special height dust containers, and special construction such as stainless steel.
