DuPont Performance Elastomers Announces Extended Fluoroelastomer Capabilities at DKT

At DKT, DuPont Performance Elastomers (DPE) will reveal early details of new grades of Viton® fluoroelastomers for injection moulding offering faster flow. The new grades will enable European processors to achieve higher productivity and are slated for commercialization later in 2006.

DPE will also showcase Viton® made with Advanced Polymer Architecture (APA) - the next generation of fluoroelastomers that meet rigorous automotive fuel system and powertrain sealing requirements for OEM automotive emissions regulation compliance, by providing enhanced resistance to new fuel compositions, and lower potential for evaporative emissions. Key applications of APA polymers in the automotive industry include fuel system seals and hoses, air intake and engine oil gaskets. Viton® fluoroelastomers are also widely used in seals for critical chemical industry processes.

In addition, DPE scientist Ronald D. Stevens will present a paper entitled: "Long Term Fuel Aging of Peroxy Cured "APA" Fluoroelastomers" which will document the long-term aging properties of these refined Viton® made with APA types and how they compare to conventional peroxide cured fluoroelastomers used in automotive fuel systems. Tensile and volume swell data from extended 5,000 hour agings in CM-15A fuel at 60°C, and from fuel permeation and sour gasoline testing, will be discussed.
