Dune Networks and Bay Microsystems Jointly Pursue Carrier Ethernet Markets with Complementary Technologies

SUNNYVALE, Calif. and SAN JOSE, Calif., May 10 / -- Dune Networks, a leading provider of switching fabric and traffic management solutions and Bay Microsystems, Inc., the world's fastest growing network processor company, announced today a joint design for Carrier Ethernet applications. The design incorporates Dune Network's SAND(TM) Traffic Manager and Switch Fabric Chipset and Bay Microsystems's Chesapeake(TM) Network Processor and Traffic Manager and provides a comprehensive, interoperable, solution for Carrier and Metro network equipment suppliers. The companies have produced a design application note describing the implementation, which is now available to customers.

The design documentation provides detailed information regarding the integration of the critical technologies into a variety of Ethernet and multiservice line card applications. Dune's switch fabric, and Bay's network processing functionality are highly complementary and the traffic management capabilities offered by the respective solutions together solve critical Quality of Service (QoS) problems: Dune's SAND Traffic Manager optimizes for traffic profiles across the switch fabric, while Chesapeake's integrated traffic manager optimizes for customer facing traffic on the line card.

Eyal Dagan, CEO of Dune Networks, explained, "We are happy to work with Bay Microsystems, and jointly present our complementary technologies to companies and developers wanting to design Metro Ethernet and Carrier products. In our eyes, this can enhance the ROI for both companies as these markets heat up."

The seamless interoperability represented by the joint design provides a market leading solution for network processing, high performance switching and traffic management functionality. The companies will provide cooperative support and documentation for those customers targeting these key advanced technologies for today's broadband networks.

"The interoperability and collaborative design support offered by Bay and Dune will have far reaching benefits for network equipment suppliers and their service provider end-customers," said Charles Gershman, Bay's President & CEO. "Those building, marketing and deploying Carrier Ethernet and multiservice platforms can now achieve a faster time to market while offering the most advanced Network Processing, Switch Fabric and Traffic Management solutions up to 40G and beyond."
