Komatsu Introduces HD465-7 Ton Dump Truck

o Powerful Tier II compliant Komatsu engine provides 715 fwhp
o New wide spacious cab
o Fully hydraulic brake system

VERNON HILLS, Ill.-August 15, 2002 - Designed for efficient operation, durability, safety and comfort in large construction and small quarry applications, Komatsu America Corporation (KAC) introduces the newest member of its dump truck family, the HD465-7. The new model replaces the very successful HD465-5.

A Tier II compliant Komatsu SAA6D170E-3 turbocharged engine provides the 217,820 lb. haul truck with 715 fwhp allowing up to a 61-ton capacity payload. Oil change recommendations have been changed from 250 hours to 500 hours. The HD465-5 is equipped with a Komatsu-designed seven-speed transmission featuring K-Atomic technology (Komatsu Advanced Transmission with Optimum Modulation Control System), allowing for smoother shifting, improved operator comfort and a longer life cycle for drive-train components.

The HD465-7 also incorporates a new airtight, fully hydraulic front brake system designed to minimize maintenance issues like freezing and debris in the brake lines while increasing the performance of the braking response.

Operator Comfort
The HD465-7 has a new spacious cab designed to enhance operator comfort, minimize fatigue and increase productivity. The two-door, walk-through cab is set on viscous damping mounts that reduce vibration and noise. Its SUV-style interior provides a standard AC/heater/defrost system, inclined dashboard, reclining seat, tilted steering wheel and an AM/FM stereo. A hydraulic steering system allows for increased steering response, requiring light effort - even at low engine rpm - helping reduce operator fatigue and increases productivity with a short turning radius.

Safety Enhancements
The HD465-7 includes multiple features to ensure operator safety, including driver and passenger belts, multiple braking systems and an automatic emergency steering system. A large automatic retarder enables the operator to select the maximum safe operating speed on downhill travel while fully loaded. Standard on the HD465-7 are a Roll-Over Protective Structure (ROPS) and Falling Object Protective Structure (FOPS) for increased operator safety in any application. A rock deflector also extends from the bed of the truck, overhanging the cab for additional operator safety. An electronic display monitoring system oversees the truck's operation, fluid and pressure levels, providing extra protection and reliability.

In addition, the HD465-7 shares parts with the WA600-1 wheel loader and the PC1100-6 excavator, allowing many services and parts to be interchangeable. Oil changes intervals have also been increase from 250-hours to 500-hours allowing more machine up-time.
