Certainteed's New Flamechek(TM) Plus 2 Insulation Gives Single-Layer Fire Protection

VALLEY FORGE, PA, DECEMBER 2002- CertainTeed introduces FlameChek(TM) Plus2 Duct Insulation, a non-ceramic, high-temperature insulation blanket that now gives a two-hour fire rating in a single-layer application. It is designed for use in many commercial and industrial passive fire protection applications, such as commercial cooking operations.

The easily installed FlameChek Plus2 is a 2-in.-thick product that delivers the same performance in one layer that previously required two layers. It provides a tested, alternative fire protective enclosure in lieu of constructing a traditional shaft wall enclosure.

The flexible fire protection wrap saves critical building space in commercial and industrial applications, allowing for zero clearance to combustibles at the overlap or collar. It also delivers superior thermal and mechanical properties and simplifies field installation, saving on labor costs.

The insulation meets the requirements defined by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) for fire rated grease ducts. FlameChek Plus2 Duct Insulation consists of a glass fiber blanket that is completely encapsulated in a UL Classified fiber glass reinforced foil facing. The flame-resistant scrim was
developed to survive the rigors of installation and to deliver enhanced weather and water resistance.

An evolutionary breakthrough in insulation materials technology, the fiber used in FlameChek Plus2 was developed from a calcium, magnesium, silica chemistry combined with a proprietary fiber spinning process to create a specialty high-temperature, completely inorganic glass fiber blanket. It is available in 20-ft. rolls, in 2- or 4-ft. widths.
