Certainteed's New Ultra*Duct(TM) Gold Virtually Eliminates Nuisance Dust

Introducing improved standard duct board

VALLEY FORGE, PA, JANUARY 2003 - CertainTeed introduces Ultra*Duct(TM) GOLD, a rigid board designed for HVAC duct work systems with a new airstream facing that significantly reduces the amount of nuisance dust generated during fabrication compared to other standard duct boards.

Ultra*Duct GOLD's mat airstream facing also adds strength to the board while helping to improve handling. In addition, the board can handle systems operating at twice the velocity as the previous generation of CertainTeed standard duct board.

Other benefits include a lighter weight, which translates to easier handling and installation for the fabricator and installer. And the new airstream surface contributes to improvements in the cutting process when both manual and automatic equipment is used.

Ultra*Duct GOLD is composed of resin-bonded glass fibers with a reinforced foil laminate air barrier vapor retarder facing applied to the outside surface and a fiber glass textile mat bonded to the airstream surface. Thermally and acoustically efficient, it absorbs unwanted crosstalk, equipment and air rush noise, and exhibits low air flow resistance. It is fabricated and installed faster and easier than wrapped or lined sheet metal systems, thus saving on labor costs.

Ultra*Duct GOLD can handle conditioned air temperatures up to 250° F (121° C), air velocities up to 5,000 fpm, and maximum internal pressures of ±2" (51 mm) water gauge. It is available in 1" and 1 1/2" thicknesses. Its surface can be cleaned with commonly available duct cleaning equipment as outlined in the North American Insulation Manufacturers Association (NAIMA) Duct Cleaning Guide. It also meets all applicable fire resistance standards and building code requirements.

Ultra*Duct GOLD comes with factory-molded male and female shiplap edges to ensure tight and strong fabricated transverse joints. The outside reinforced foil laminate air barrier extends over the full width of the male shiplap to serve as a stapling flap for strength and ease of installation.
