Duct Board has moisture-repellent surface.

Press Release Summary:

ToughGard(TM) with Enhanced Surface protects against moisture that may enter duct systems. Breathable coating preserves sound-dampening performance of insulation by allowing sound waves to pass through open-cell structure and into sound-absorbing, glass-fiber mat. Designed to operate at air velocities to 5000 fpm, product resists damage caused by fabrication and job-site installation. It offers abrasion-resistant surface and EPA-registered antimicrobial agent.

Certainteed Expands Moisture-Repellent Feature to ToughGard(TM) Duct Board

Latest addition to HVAC/mechanical insulation line

VALLEY FORGE, PA, DECEMBER 2002 - Based on specifiers' positive response to its new moisture-repellent airstream surface enhancement on its duct liners, CertainTeed Corporation has added ToughGard(TM) Duct Board to the list of HVAC/mechanical insulation products featuring the added moisture-repellent surface.

The Enhanced Surface feature was developed for specifiers who want to alleviate any concerns about moisture that may enter a duct system due to improperly sealed duct joints or poorly installed and maintained duct systems.

The Enhanced Surface will not absorb moisture like other fiber glass duct liners or duct board. Studies have shown it be approximately 40% more moisture resistant than the previous generation of duct system insulation. ToughGard Duct Board with Enhanced Surface now joins CertainTeed's two duct liners -
ToughGard Duct Liner with Enhanced Surface and ToughGard R Duct Liner with Enhanced Surface - to offer specifers a greater selection of moisture-resistant insulation products.

Unlike reflective, continuous film coatings used in competitive duct insulation products, the breathable Enhanced Surface coating preserves the sound-dampening performance of the insulation by allowing sound waves to pass through the open-cell structure and into the sound-absorbing glass fiber mat. The air stream surface contains an EPA registered antimicrobial agent in order to reduce the potential of microbial growth that may affect this product. The antimicrobial properties are intended to only protect this product.

ToughGard Duct Board with Enhanced Surface is designed to be fabricated into supply and return air ductwork for HVAC systems in commercial and residential applications. Tested in accordance with Underwriters Laboratories UL 181, it is designed to operate at air velocities up to 5000 fpm.

In addition, the tough airstream facing surface is resistant to fabrication and job site installation damage. It also provides an abrasion-resistant surface that may be cleaned with commonly available duct cleaning equipment as outlined in the North American Insulation Manufacturers Association (NAIMA) Duct Cleaning Guide.

CertainTeed ToughGard Duct Board with Enhanced Surface has generally a lower installed cost than wrapped or lined sheet metal systems. Easier and quicker to cut and fabricate, it also installs more quickly because of its weight. The duct board can be fabricated into square, rectangular, or multi-sided duct sections.

The exceptional low air leakage rate (SMACNA Class 6) of the ToughGard Duct Board with Enhanced Surface, as well as its inherent thermal efficiency, improves the HVAC system performance and can help save energy, thereby keeping energy costs down.
