VALLEY FORGE, PA, DECEMBER 2001 - CertainTeed ToughGard(TM) Fiber Glass Duct Board - with the ToughGard durable airstream surface - is designed to be fabricated into supply and return air ductwork for HVAC systems in commercial and residential applications
Tested in accordance with Underwriters Laboratories UL 181, ToughGard Duct Board is designed to operate at air velocities up to 5000 fpm.
In addition, the tough airstream facing surface of ToughGard Duct Board is resistant to fabrication and job site installation damage. It also provides an abrasion-resistant surface that may be cleaned with commonly available duct cleaning equipment as outlined in the North American Insulation Manufacturers Association (NAIMA) Duct Cleaning Guide.
CertainTeed ToughGard Duct Board, composed of resin bonded glass fibers yielding exceptional product consistency, has generally a lower installed cost than wrapped or lined sheet metal systems. Easier and quicker to cut and fabricate, it also installs more quickly because of its weight. The duct board can be fabricated into square, rectangular, or multi-sided duct sections.
The exceptional low air leakage rate (SMACNA Class 6) of the ToughGard Duct Board, as well as its inherent thermal efficiency, improves the HVAC system performance and can help save energy, thereby keeping costs down.
ToughGard Duct Board includes a foil laminate air barrier/vapor retarder which reduces the chance of condensation and the resulting chance of material and system damage caused by unwanted moisture. IAQ is improved when condensation problems are eliminated. The product contains an EPA-registered anti-microbial.
The duct board is designed for systems that operate at temperatures up to 250° F. and maximum internal pressures of 2-in. water gauge. Its fiber glass composition, with its excellent acoustical properties, helps keep crosstalk, air rush, and equipment noises to a minimum.
ToughGard Duct Board comes standard with factory-molded male and female shiplap edges to ensure tight and strong fabricated transverse joints. The outside reinforced foil laminate air barrier extends over the full width of the male shiplap to serve as a stapling flap for strength and ease of installation.
The product is available in El ratings (Flexural Rigidity) of 475 and 800. Standard width is 48-in.; lengths are 96-in. and 120-in. Available thicknesses are 1 in. and 1-1/2 in.
