Dual-Spindle Turning Center Reduces Part Handling, Boosts Production
Having to move the same part from machine to machine for different operations can increase setup time, add to staffing costs and reduce part accuracy. With the manufacturing industry facing a shortage of skilled labor and an economic slowdown, machine shops need to boost production and increase accuracy to improve their bottom line. The new TL-25 dual-spindle lathe from Haas Automation allows turning of double-ended parts in a single setup on one machine.
Built on the shop-proven Haas SL-30 platform, the TL-25 CNC lathe features a 30-hp vector- drive main spindle with 10" chuck, and an 8-hp sub-spindle with 5" chuck. The main spindle provides speeds to 3,400 rpm standard, and the sub-spindle provides speeds up to 4,000 rpm. The TL-25 comes standard with a 12-station tool turret that holds a combination of six VDI 40 tools and six bolt-on tools. Special twin-bore and twin-turn toolholders are included for sub-spindle work.
The addition of live tooling and full C-axis options to the TL-25 increase versatility further, allowing such secondary operations as milling, drilling and tapping to be performed both on the face of the part and around the diameter. With these options, the TL-25's main spindle is capable of fully interpolated, bidirectional synchronous motion for milling flats, hexes and flutes. The end result is a finished part off the machine with no need for additional setups and operations. Full lights-out operation is possible by combining the TL- 25 with the Haas Serve Bar 300 automatic bar feeder and the automatic parts catcher.
