Dual PWM Controller simplifies design of memory systems.

Press Release Summary:

FAN5236 dual synchronous switch-mode power supply controller offers solutions for bus termination in high-speed memory systems using DDR-1, DDR-11, or HSTL interfaces. It provides VDDQ core and VTT termination power, buffered VREF output, and allows users to cascade multiple devices. VTT output sources and sinks up to 3A, tracking VDDQ/2 to within ±2%. VREF output follows VTT within ±40mV. Programmable device generates outputs from 900 mV to 5.5 V.

DUAL PWM CONTROLLER OFFERS COMPLETE SOLUTION FOR DDR MEMORY BUS TERMINATION

San Jose, Calif.-January 4, 2001-The new FAN5236 dual synchronous switch-mode power supply controller from Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE:FCS) offers memory system designers a complete solution for bus termination in high-speed memory systems using DDR-1, DDR-11, or HSTL interfaces. Defined with guidance from Intel and AMD systems engineers, the features of the FAN5236 greatly simplify the task of designing high-performance memory systems that conform to industry DDR interface standards. In addition to providing VDDQ core and VTT termination power, a buffered VREF output simplifies the design of large system architectures by allowing users to easily cascade multiple devices. The VTT output of the FAN5236 sources and sinks up to 3A, tracking VDDQ /2 to within ±2%. The VREF output follows VTT within ±40mV, meeting-or exceeding-JEDEC standards. According to Richard Wegner, Strategic Marketing Manager, "The complete functionality of the FAN5236, coupled with its low price, make the FAN5236 the most reliable, cost-effective solution available for high-speed memory interface designs."

The FAN5236 is an excellent choice as a high-efficiency, full-featured independent dual supply controller for portable computing applications that use low-voltage CPUs and ASICs. The device can be programmed to generate outputs over a 900mV to 5.5V range, up to 6A per channel, with independent current limiting and shutdown controls.

Rated for operation over 0°C to 70°C temperature range, the FAN5236 is available in both 28-lead QSOP and TSSOP packages, and is supplied in either tube or tape-and-reel packing. The FAN5236 is second-sourced by Intersil (ISL6225).
